Walkabelly Dog Harness - Sizing, Fit & Use

Helpful information on how to use the mid section support harness, measure your pet for the harness, and properly apply.

Product Description

The Walkabelly is a temporary support system for dogs that have weakness in all four legs. Also may be used for rear limb amputees while they are adjusting to the initial loss of their limb. Made from a lightweight neoprene with a sheepskin lining, it comfortably fits under the abdomen between the front and rear legs and wraps over the back with a Velcro™ closure. Features two handles for support. Machine washable. Measure around the dog's chest and abdomen area for a proper fit.

The Walkabelly Harness is usable for Calvin, but he is very thin right now and it sometimes slides to the back.

It has been a big help. It is used on a Greyhound who has large chest but
very slim belly. It does slip back but we still find it most helpful. She is
14 years old and arthritic.

My dogwalk group & I recently did a fundraiser to purchase one of these in each size for our local veterinary clinic. As other users have mentioned, we also noticed some issues with fit on barrel-chested breeds, so to get around it we had our local sewing group devise a pattern for a chest-piece/strap. They work really well now for all breeds & we've passed on our modifications to the manufacturer. They truly are incredibly well made & quality items, they just need a little bit of "tweaking" for use on large-chested canines. (Just FYI though, we found that if it's to be used on amputee recovery of the front legs, you cannot have a chest piece due to it's rubbing on sensitive flesh. We made all our chest straps to be removable). Hopefully the company will come out with a more improved version soon, but otherwise they are all they are advertised to be & work very, very well.

Glad to have this product. It really helps my back while compensating for my dog's bad back and legs.

I agree with previous comments. This product is probably fine for dogs with barrel type chests -- but not if the rib cage is significantly larger than the pelvis. When my dog moves forward, twists or rolls, as she often does, the harness slips back and she falls over. We are doing our best with it, as I needed something. But I would suggest the manufacturer devise a front piece across the chest to keep it from slipping. I will have to investigate more possibilities.
